Postby blagger » Mon Mar 25, 2013 11:14 pm

I didnt know where to stick this but i thought i would share this,

i needed a USB to SATA caddy to backup a failing hdd i took out my pc. anyway thought i would get one of those £10 jobbies as i wasnt gonna use it much.

got it today and was fine up until now, the power supply just went pop.

after a little looking on the tinternet at the power supply model number i came up with this site

i know not to trust all cheap mains products and i know there is a lot of chinese cheap stuff out there and this is one but 9/10 i have had a semi decent product. but just sharing this word of warning if you have a caddy like mine then check the PSU model number and see if it matches: FZX-PWH125A

i have emailed the seller telling him about it.

oh and mine came in a white box and not the retail outer sleeve

yeah i'm normally dubious about mains related items from ebay, esp the cheaper stuff where the chinese stuff gets mixed in with it, but i thought i would bring my experience and findings to ppls attention b4 someone gets a serious or fatal shock from one.

Been in contact with the seller this morning again via email. The story so far is that they offered a replacement power supply of if i wanted a 10% refund so i didnt have to wait for them to send a replacement power supply and that would cover for me to find one locally. I emailed bk basically where the hell in the uk am i gonna find the correct power output and connector fitment for 95p lol

Got and email bk saying something like they cant supply just a replacement power supply but i can buy the whole lot again at a cheaper price..... Right what ever, still half a sleep so once im fully alert well as alert as can be im gonna re read that last email and try n make out what they are saying for sure and tell em to stuck it me having to pay for a replacement.

I get the feeling that if you bought a whole new unit off them they would get it from the same supplier and the PSU would be the same unit.

Head down to maplins and spend £20... you'll at least get some proper comeback...

The Power Supply FZX-PWH125A is not only dangerous electrically - it also present a major problem with electrical noise (EMC)
I found that my internet connection started to run slow when using the drive caddy - this was because the power supply inject a massive amount of electrical noise into the mains - and then onto the internet circuits.

I replace the power supply with another 5/12V unti, and all is well now.

Suggest you never use FZX-PWH125A - throw it away!!!!
